Wheee! We’re so excited about our space! Here are some features.
The INDOOR space is designed with the following elements in mind:
- Sinks. We put a sink in the bathroom and right outside the bathroom. So. Much. Handwashing.
- An Upper Play Area and a Lower Play Area. It’s a 17″ differential between the upper and lower area, and it makes a fun dynamic, especially with the Secret Door That’s Not So Secret.
- Efficiency. We replaced all of the windows. We replaced all of the appliances.
- Flexible Play Spaces. We’re making areas modular so that we can rearrange the furniture and evolve as needed.
- Storage. We have a sweet storage area for toys-in-rotation.

The OUTDOOR space is still a work-in-progress and we expect it to evolve significantly over the first year of operation. Our ideas include:
- Lots of open space (it’s a huge yard with room to run and climb and skip and hop)
- A cycle track. Imagine a loop for bikes and scooters.
- A big sandbox. Of course.
- Tall poles strategically placed throughout the playyard (we have unique capabilities to install such things). We find it is so handy to have anchor points (e.g. poles) in large play areas so that we can attach shade devices, lights, and other items.
- A large bark chip area. Using the wires between the poles, imagine an area for swings that could be clipped in-and-out depending on the interests of the group. (Our regulations require 6′ clearance around any feature that creates an 18″+ drop, but we have that room.)
- A tube/slide area. Imagine a 6-sided structure, with a tube running through one axis; stairs up one side and a slide down the other axis, a smooth side, and a side with a pump/space for water to flow.
- Some sort of topography (think of a little mound, perhaps round in shape, or perhaps a paisley shape). Plus a built-in slide.
- Some sort of gardening (pumpkins anyone? sunflowers along the permimeter? fruit trees?).
- A quiet area. There’s a peaceful spot in the back corner underneath a couple of the mature trees. Perhaps a bench.
- New fences. We applied for a grant to pay for this (fingers crossed).
We’re excited to hear your ideas! And then execute on the evolving vision. 🙂
